(03/18/2010)

Pitt Community College Baseball--currently the nation's second-ranked junior college program--will hold an open tryout for unsigned seniors on March 21 at 10 a.m. for position players and 10:45 a.m. for pitchers.

The pro-style workout will include the following: run 60s, infield-outfield from positions and batting practice. Pitchers will throw in the bullpens. There may be a light scrimmage if there are enough participants.

All players must bring a copy of a recently completed physical (within the past year) and all of the essential equipment (i.e, cleats, glove) needed to participate. Catchers must bring their own equipment.

Williams Scores Late as Dawgs Win, 76-74

(03/05/2010)

Damien WilliamsWENTWORTH—Sophomore Damien Williams’ layup and foul shot in the waning seconds pushed Pitt Community College past Catawba Valley Community College last night, 76-74, in the Region X Conference Tournament’s play-in game.

With time running out, Pitt guard Jakiel Moore found Williams open for the layup to give the Bulldogs a 75-74 lead. Williams was fouled on the shot and hit his free throw to give PCC a two-point victory in what had been a tight game throughout.

Williams and fellow sophomore Stephen Gomola finished with 13 points each to pace the seventh-seeded Bulldogs offensively. Steffen McGhee tossed in 12 points for Pitt while Moore finished with nine and Jimitrez McCloud had eight.

By Kevin Travis
Washington Daily News Sports Editor

(03/05/2010)

Heather Jackson SigningWILLIAMSTON – Heather Jackson had a couple of tough choices to make. A star athlete for the Williamston Tigers, the senior had to decide where she wanted to play collegiately. And she had to figure out what sport she wanted to play.

The affable, outgoing Jackson, an outstanding softball and volleyball player for the Tigers, decided to play softball at Pitt Community College.

Jackson said she was thrilled to join a strong Bulldogs’ program.

“I’m really excited about it,” said a smiling Jackson, who plans to be a special education elementary teacher. “I didn’t want to go far from home. I knew they had a good school and a good softball program.”

Jackson was joined at the signing, held last month inside the Williamston High School library, by her mother, Donna Bowen, and grandparents, Cubby and Carolyn Arnold.
